"Is life just about winning?" "Is it about being Numero Uno all the time?" What do I do if I am unable to get to number one? How do I live with myself?"
ReplyDelete"Is life about winning?"
No, definitely not. Life is not just about winning.
Life to me is about excellence; it is the constant quest for betterment. My father's elder sister once said to me, and I quote: "Your life is God's gift to you. What you make of it is your gift to God."
Consider the incredible and unique senses we are born with such: as humor, values, aesthetics and tastes. Also consider that each one of us is gifted with the most powerful element in the known universe (the human mind).
I believe that we are born with a responsibility to excel in every way. If freedom is our birthright then 'Consistent Excellence' is our duty.
To excel in life is the minimum duty we owe to our parents whose numerous sacrifices we stand tall upon today. It's a duty we owe to our teachers, friends, relatives, environment and society at large.
Above all, you owe it to yourself to excel!!
Where does winning and being number one fit into this? Winning is a relative term that can make you feel exuberant or depressed depending upon the frame that the incident is fitted into. Winning or losing are mere benchmarking exercises.
The quest for excellence is the obligation that we are born to carry out. Giving our best every time again and again, thereby stretching and upgrading our own standards is what life is about.
Resting on past laurels or sitting down and saying "I've tried but I can't do it" is an excuse to wriggle out of our duty.
Life is not about winning. It's about excelling and to excel, we need to search, find barriers that stop us and keep decimate these barriers all the time. It's a never ending journey.
